        School of Chinese Studies· School of Central Asia

        The School of Chinese Studies is the first institution that specializes in teaching Chinese as a foreign language (TCFL) in northwest China. The School is multilingual base for promoting TCFL authorized by Hanban, the Standing Director of International Society for Chinese Language Teaching (ISCLT), Presidential Organization of Society of Education for International Students in Shaanxi Province, and teaching institution approved by Ministry of Education for international students who receive scholarship from government of China and Confucius Institute. The School began to accept international students since 1979. And since 1998, the School began to offer Chinese as undergraduate program for international students. In the past 40 years, more than 18,500 international students form 37 countries such as the United States, Great Britain, France, Japan, and South Korea have graduated from Xi`an International Studies University.

        To integrate international students and strengthen the promotion of Chinese, the School of Chinese Studies merged with School of Central Asia (Multilingual Base for International Promotion of Chinese and Office of Confucius Institute) in June, 2016, which has enhanced the class management and teacher training and has improved the overall quality of programs such as regional economics, tourism management, and Chinese international education.

        The School always centers teacher development as its focus. Currently, the School has 17 full-time faculty members, including 2 professors, 11 associate professors, and 11 doctors. 76.47% of them have senior titles. And all teachers graduated from key universities such as Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, East China Normal University, Suzhou University, Shaanxi Normal University, and Northwest University. Their in-depth professional experience in teaching Chinese language and culture, with strong research capacity and potential, are the foundation to ensure the sustainable yet solid development of the School.

        The School has been offering exchange programs with internationally renowned universities since 1979. Until now, the School has established sound cooperation with 80 universities and overseas study agencies from more than 30 counties. The School has worked actively to support Confucius Institute and helped to establish three Confucius Institutes in the United States, Kazakhstan and Argentina, respectively. Over the past four decades, the School has been fully supportive for international reception as requested by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and has undertaken Chinese programs for exchange students from our partner institutions.  After the establishment of Hanban Multilingual Base for International Promotion of Chinese at the School in 2012, our School again has cultivated talents to many countries all over the world.
